Happy Birthday, America! We are now officially 250 years old! Come one, come all to our party! Yes, there is plenty to celebrate. Many unique coins and medals are being produced by the U.S. Mint and many other private mints in honor of our collective achievement. Spend a little or spend a lot, there is plenty there.

It seems like we celebrated our Bicentennial only yesterday, but that was fifty years ago. My, how time flies. Another way to celebrate now is to get involved, I mean, really get involved in your local coin club. I have the opportunity to see and speak to a lot of collectors from across the state. When we talk about local clubs, it's the same story everywhere: “We have members, in some cases lots of members, on paper, but it’s so hard to get members to volunteer to help with club activities.”

Take the time this year to really ask yourself how you can help your club. Most clubs rely either officially or unofficially on the same members to step forward to get things done. That’s fine, believe me, I get it, but rather than having to reinvent the wheel when those members are unable or unwilling to continue due to health or circumstance, find where your talents lie and really lend a hand.

Nothing stays the same. Look at our country’s last 250 years. Look at your club’s history. The majority of our clubs have been around for quite a while. When we work together, we all win. Keep your club strong. Volunteer your time and talent.

Happy Summer! Enjoy collecting, see you in the Fall!
